Stila 'In The Light' Palette | Swatch

Friday, 3 January 2014

This famous eyeshadow palette has been a favourite amongst many YouTube gurus and beauty bloggers and I'm happy to say that I have jumped on the bandwagon! My boyfriend and Nhi from Miss Blushaholic bought me the exact same palette for Christmas so I had to return one and exchange it to something else, but nonetheless, I love them both! Anyways, today I will be showing you some close up shots and also showing you swatches of the palette and of course, my thoughts on it.

Starting with the packaging, it's quite simple and reminds me of The Balm's eyeshadow palettes because it's made out of hard cardboard, which isn't the best but I still think it's sturdy enough to take traveling as it's lightweight and has a magnetic closure which will keep the eyeshadows safe. The palette contains a large mirror which is convenient especially if you need to do close ups when applying your makeup. It has 10 beautiful eyeshadows ranging from matte, shimmer and metallic. It also comes with a smudge stick waterproof eyeliner in 'Damsel' which is a bonus since I've never tried any eyeliners from Stila. It's creamy, long lasting and also retractable which is again, very, very convenient.

The shade selection is right up my alley; it has a lot of warm tone colours which can be used to create soft smokey looks for day time wear but also deeper colours to create smokey eyes for night time.
(From left to right)
Bare is a off-white, creamy matte shade which is great for highlighting the brow bone, Kitten is a shimmery pink shade, Bliss is the perfect matte brown shade to define your crease and add definition, Sunset is a beautiful deep bronze shade with shimmer, Sandstone is a deep, matte brown shade, perfect for defining the outer 'V' and creating a soft, smokey eye, Bubbly is a shimmery gold shade, Glided gold is a deep brown shade with shimmer, Luster is a brown-ish, charcoal shade with shimmer, Night sky a deep blue with shimmer with a slightly silver undertone and Ebony is a matte black shade.

When swatching the eyeshadows, I noticed that there was a little 'hit and miss' with some eyeshadows. The matte eyeshadows seemed a little more powdery and chalky but soon realised that when I blended the shadows on my eyes, they blended seamlessly and the pigmentation was gorgeous. They became even more vibrant over an eyeshadow primer. I really would recommend this palette to those who don't have access to the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. This palette retails for $62 at Mecca Cosmetica and while I can't justify spending that amount of money on a palette, I am so grateful that I received it as a present.

That's the end of my post guys, I hope you enjoyed reading! Let me know your thoughts about this palette or other items you would recommend from Stila!
